Gold Coast Farms History

[Gold Coast strawberries]Gold Coast Farms was founded by Ron Burk and Robert Espinola. Ron and "Bob" met while working together in the agricultural industry. They struck up a friendship and began growing greenhouse tomatoes, and kiwis on the weekend. Their weekend hobby soon turned to a thriving business when they founded Gold Coast Farms in 1978.

Out of a passion for farming, Ron, Bob and the Gold Coast team have "grown" their business to include a variety of crops. Gold Coast Farms now produces strawberries, cilantro, broccoli, spinach, cauliflower, corn and wine grapes from the Santa Maria Valley.

[Lush field] Their decision to grow grapes appeared to be fate. On a bluff at Fuglar’s Point, where the soil proved to be poor for vegetable growth, Ron and Bob decided to try wine grapes. The well drained, sandy loam soil, although difficult for vegetable production, was perfect for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes.

Today, 19 acres of Pinot Noir and 11 acres of Chardonnay cover this beautiful and unique landscape of the Santa Maria Valley.
